Further developments in GRIMME’s spring equipment

Targeted adjustments for the 2027 season.

GRIMME presents a host of innovations in planting technology

A whole bunch of new features will be available for the GL 420 EXACTA, GL 860 COMPACTA and GL 420 potato planters, as well as the PRIOS 440 series, for the 2027 season.

The focus is on improvements to operation, ease of servicing, soil protection and digitalisation. In addition, various equipment options have been further developed to tailor the machines even more precisely to the requirements of potato-growing farms.

New features across all machines

In addition to the developments made to individual machines, various features used across several model ranges have been revised.

Starting with the Cam Lock system. It enables chemical crop protection with a quick switch between tuber and furrow treatment, and reduces set-up times in the field. This makes it even easier and more efficient to carry out different crop protection applications.

The front-mounted barrel systems have also been further developed for farms that apply liquid fertiliser or carry out liquid tuber treatment. Integrated case weights of up to 1,000 kg ensure optimum balance of the tractor-implement combination, improve traction and have a positive effect on handling.

Planting technology has also been further developed in the field of digitalisation and automation. This includes the transmission of driving speed data via ISOBUS, the SmartView kit for retrofitting a camera monitoring system, and the extension of an automatic system for spraying tracks by including ‘Tramline Control – Level 1’. This feature supports the driver in his daily work and helps to ensure a high degree of precision when placing the tubers.

GL 420

Greater ease of use and simplified servicing are at the heart of the enhancements to the GL 420. An optimised switch box for the shakers makes operation easier and enhances the user experience

In addition, access for maintenance and servicing work has been improved. This means that important maintenance can be carried out more quickly, ensuring that the machine remains in efficient operation.

GL 420 EXACTA

Thanks to the new depth control system, when used in conjunction with Fendt tractors, the GL 420 Exacta achieves an even more consistent and precise planting depth. The ground scanning now takes place directly between the planting elements using a feeler paddle, rather than using a feeler ball which was fitted in front of ridge shaping unit. This ensures a consistently high quality of tuber-placement, even when ground conditions vary. The precise and even placement of the tubers thus fulfils an important prerequisite for optimal plant growth. In future, a row width of 90 cm will also be available for the machine in the online-configurator, expanding its range of applications.

The GL 420 Exacta has also been further developed in the areas of soil preparation and soil protection. TerraProtect will be available for this planter in future. TerraProtect forms so-called dykes to store water between the ridges, thereby reducing surface runoff and soil erosion. The factory-fitted carrying roller complements soil cultivation by providing targeted recompaction and helps to maintain a stable, crumble structure in the cultivation horizon. It is available again with immediate effect.

In addition, the machine is fitted with a new, lowerable support wheel, which offers advantages both during transport and when working in the field. When driving on the road, it improves weight distribution and can support up to 1.5 tonnes, thereby relieving the load on the tractor’s rear axle. When used in the field, the support wheel, together with the tyres positioned alongside it, ensures even recompaction between the tractor tracks.

GL 860 COMPACTA

The focus of the further developments to the GL 860 COMPACTA is on simpler operation and greater ease of maintenance. The rear tank system has been redesigned, making it easier to switch between tuber and furrow treatment. At the same time, optimised and more accessible operating points ensure greater ease of use and more efficient workflows.

In addition, the granulate castor has been made easier to maintain, meaning that servicing and maintenance work can be carried out even more easily in future.

PRIOS 440

The new steering axle with automatic self-centering mechanism in the standard version of the PRIOS 440 improves handling and makes it easier to control the machine in the field.

To ensure fertilisation tailored to requirements, even at low application rates, the PRIOS 440-Beet (for bed-cultivation) will in future feature precise fertiliser application at rates below 150 kg/ha.
The PRIOS 440 PRO supplements this feature with a revised fertiliser placement system, in which a single strip of fertiliser is deposited beneath the centre of the tuber. This method of fertiliser application enables an even more targeted supply of nutrients to the crop.

The retrofitting of the rear barrel system brings further benefits for the PRIOS. More accessible control points and an additional platform improve ease of use and reduce the time required for day-to-day tasks.

With the PRIOS 440 LIGHT, PRIOS 440, PRIOS 440 BEET (for bed-cultivation) and PRIOS 440 PRO models, the range covers a wide spectrum of applications – from cost-effective entry-level solutions to high-precision professional equipment.

With the changes introduced for the 2027 season, the product range will be systematically tailored to the needs of the practice. The expanded range of equipment and configuration options provides greater flexibility when making investment decisions and allows for even more precise adaptation to the individual requirements of potato growers – whether in terms of efficiency, ease of use or future digitalisation.
